What does each card include?
The loyalty cards and gift cards in the G4POS catalogue have the same physical characteristics. Only their use in the store’s software differs. The client chooses the barcode symbology and the magnetic stripe encoding.
| Characteristic | Loyalty cards and gift cards |
|---|---|
| Material | PVC |
| Printing | Colour, front and back |
| Magnetic stripe | HiCo, encoding chosen by the client, most often on tracks 1, 2 and 3 |
| Barcode | Symbology chosen by the client: Code 128 (the most common), QR code, Code 39, UPC-A, UPC-E and other symbologies on request |
| Numbering | Unique serial number on each card |
| Packaging | Individually bagged |
How does the checkout read the cards?
Each card offers two ways to be read: the HiCo magnetic stripe and the barcode. Check which one your client’s checkout station can read, then set up the software accordingly. Points and balances are tracked in the client’s point-of-sale software.
Choose the barcode symbology with the station’s scanner in mind: it must be enabled on that scanner. A QR code needs a scanner that reads 2D codes, while Code 128 can also be read by a 1D scanner. The symbology guide explains how to enable the card’s symbology.
Guide and technology:
How does a card order work?
Once your reseller account is open, you order the cards from the G4POS team by phone or email. First, gather this information with your client:
- the number of cards: 1,000 at minimum per order, not per design;
- the artwork for the front and back: a print-ready file supplied by the client, or a layout done by G4POS, for a fee;
- the barcode symbology and the magnetic stripe encoding;
- the software that will manage points or balances.
Before printing, you receive a proof to approve. Production takes 3 business weeks after the proof is approved.

Loyalty card or gift card: which should you propose?
Propose gift cards to a store that sells prepaid cards as gifts, and loyalty cards to a store that wants to reward its regular customers. The same store can run both programs if its software supports them.
