The IP rating is the standardized measure of how well an enclosure is sealed. The first digit covers solids and dust, the second liquids; the higher the digit, the stricter the protection.
Why it matters to a reseller
The IP rating is a number you can be held to. When a client asks for “rugged” hardware, ask which rating they need. Then quote the rating published by the manufacturer, without rounding it up: a claim after a hose-down or a spill will be settled on that number.
