ESC/POS

Epson Standard Code for POS · printer command set

ESC/POS is the command set created by Epson that most receipt printers understand. Software that speaks ESC/POS controls printing, paper cutting and the opening of the cash drawer.

Why it matters to a reseller

For a reseller, ESC/POS is the lowest common denominator: a compatible printer works with most point-of-sale software, with no proprietary driver. When a client keeps their current software, check right away whether that software speaks ESC/POS or requires an OPOS layer.
